still looking good, still having fun ...

Oh, the relief! They might be healthy, and we have to be very grateful for that, but dyslexia is such a so-and-so problem to have ... it gnaws away at self-confidence, it means academic study is a constant grind and it's misunderstood which can make getting the appropriate support a total nightmare!
BUT good news is here ... after a 9 year post-diagnosis slog and battle with the powers that be, my lovely son has not only passed his GCSE's but has sailed through them and has now registered in 6th form for his first choice 4 AS levels!

He ultimately had the benefit of extra time and use of a laptop in his exams which made a huge difference ... but the journey to get that help was not an easy one. I was "dog-with-a-bone" determined he should have the same chances as others ... he is academically bright but his reading and writing always let him down. When he was younger he used to say "I know I'm as clever as everyone else in the class I just can't write it down" and this inevitably led to low self-esteem. Fortunately, his very laidback nature has carried him through and there were never any tantrums and refusals to co-operate which undeniably helped.

Admittedly with this year's GCSE's my involvement has been a little more hands on than it was with my other two children, but my goodness, it has been worth every late night of converting his revision books into online mindmaps for him!!!!!

Now, he doesn't have to feel anything other than totally brilliant ... he has that piece of paper that proves it now and I am so very very proud!
